Highlighters are perfect for catching the light, and especially the sun. However, we don’t spend all of our day out in the sun, and can often find ourselves hit with bad or low lighting.
Low lighting occurs in multiple places. Whether we are out shopping, clubbing, going on a date, or just headed out for a night on the town, we still want our highlighters to be Poppin’! These are the best highlighters for low lighting.
The Best Highlighters For Low Lighting: Light Skin
Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Celestial, $52.00 review here– Celestial is a glistening pearl with a pure white base which appears almost metallic on the skin. As it has such a pure colour base, Celestial will catch the low lighting shade and allow it to bounce off while recreating it on the skin. Apply Celestial with a brush and blend edges with a beauty blender.
Best for those with light skin and cooler undertones.
Makeup Revolution Ultra Strobe Balm in Euphoria, £5.00 – Euphoria is a pale yellow base duo-chrome pink. When applied, the duo chrome becomes more evident as light bounces off. However in low light, the flush of colour appears more like a vibrant disco ball. Just watch as it catches the pure light. Apply with fingers tips to allow the warmth of the skin to melt it into the skin.
Best for those with light skin and coolers under tones.
Sephora Radiant Luminzing Drops in Morning Light, $19.00, review here– Morning light is a pale champagne highlight which grabs the light with its barely perceptible glitter. This enables the highlight to be views at all angles during the lower light. However it is a more gentle glow, though not quite natural. Apply straight from the bottle to the cheeks and blend with a dense brush.
Best for those with light – light medium skin with warmer under tones.
The Best Highlighters For Low Lighting: Medium Skin
ColourPop Super Shock Cheek in Most Necessary, $8.00 – Most Necessary is a Coppery Rose Gold highlighter with minute gold particles. The great things about this highlighter is it can be worn as a blusher/highlight combo. Surprisingly, it needs only the tiniest amount when applied on the upper cheek bones as it catches ambient lighting the best. The minute gold particles dances on the cheeks, while leaving a beautiful hint of colour. Apply with your fingers tips to warm up product upon application.
Best for those with medium skin and both warm and cooler tones. For those with cooler tones, do not go heavy handed and it can give the appearance of ruddiness.
Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Gilded Honey, £21.00 , review here– Gilded Honey is a light golden highlight, however it really shines when it is foiled. When you are in low lighting, the foiled highlights catches all available rays enabling the skin to appear like molten lava. Apply one layer with a fan brush normally, spritz brush with Fix +, and apply a second layer. Set with a dewy setting spray for further radiance.
Best for medium skin with warm undertones.
Carli Bybel 14 Colour Eyeshadow Highlighter Palette, Shade 3 Gold, $14.50, review here– Shade 3 is a pure golden highlight which, unlike Gilded honey, does not need to be foiled, and appears best when it is applied more naturally. The golden light dances on the skin with a pink glow in low lighting situations, yet does not appear as crimson. It shines with a naturally healthy glow.
Best for those with medium skin and warmer under tones. FYI, Shade 2 can work for those with cooler undertones
The Best Highlighters For Low Lighting: Dark Skin
Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Prosecco Pop, $46.00 (Face palette shown, split duo link) review here– Prosecco pop is a vibrant yellow luminizer which hits the light as bright as the sun. However, low lighting does need a bit of work. To wear effectively, apply with a tapered brush, then foil with a fan brush for precision placement. Set with a dewy setting skin mist. As it is a more yellow based highlighter, it is best worn under club lighting. Either wise it will appear as a yellow streak across the cheeks.
Best for those with Deep skin and warmer under tones.
Carli Bybel 14 Colour Eyeshadow Highlighter Palette, Shade 4 Bronze, $14.50 review here– Shade 4 is a deep bronze with a copper under tone. The deep bronze shade is exquisite in all low lighting situations, giving the user a heavenly glow. Apply as you would a normal illuminator, and foil with precision. Don’t forget to hit the cupids bow with the tips of a fan brush.
Best for those with deep skin tones, warm and cool.
