I promised myself I would stop. I really did, but I just could not prevent my finger from clicking “buy now”. So much for willpower! Here was my false promise: I promised myself I would stop buying highlighters. Instead I have purchased about 20 more since May… What can I say? It is an addiction!
The Cannoli Highlighter Trio, $20.00 or $8 each, consisted of Wisp, Whipped and Frosted. Having already owned Wisp, I knew exactly what I was getting into, and it gave me yet another chance to stock up on my favourite ColourPop Highlighter. However Whipped and Frosted were new to me.
Wisp is a pearlized golden champagne highlight with gold pearls which reflect the light, creating a dance like sheen on the skin. Frosted is a true gold, yet still plays soft and gentle on the skin. Whipped was a highlighter I never expected. Its tie dye appearance belies what’s inside. Whipped is a subtle silvery like taupe with pink glitter that catches the light. As with all ColourPop highlighters, Wisp and Frosted included, it melts into the skin, and glistens for an all day illumination. However this fascinating combination is stunning on the skin, and has actually dethroned my beloved Wisp for top spot in the ColourPop Highlighter Division.
I wish I had bought more just for Whipped! It gives me all the heart eye emojis!
However, the Ultra Blotted Lips are a story of its own.
They looked quite interesting in all the video reviews I watched on Youtube, what I wasn’t expecting was its odd texture, wear etc. It dries down fairly quickly, which is a plus, but the pigmentation is quite minimal. On my lips, it is like a popsicle stain. Some stains can be beautiful, and I am constantly tempted by them, but not these.
As with the other Ultra lippies, it does a job of dehydrating the lips, which is a big con. Luckily enough, they do not last long enough to do much damage. Nevertheless, unlike most the Ultra Mattes, these tend to flake off rather quickly, even with the tiniest drop of liquid on them. I don’t think I ever got more than four hours wear time tops.
Doozy, $6.00, is a muted dusty rose, which, actually looks like I am wearing nothing at all. Not a “my lips but better”, but more of an even tone due to the one sun spot I now have on my lips. Bits-O Sunny is a cherry kool-aid like stain, and I find the flakies of the two. I just do not see myself wearing this often, or at all. I may just give it to my daughter since it feel more like children’s makeup.
The Ultra Blotted Lips felt like it was forced. As if they wanted to create something new, but just couldn’t figure out how. Such a major shame.
