Where to go for Stag & Hen Dos in the North East*

Hen do

Newcastle has been identified as the most popular destination across Europe for both stag and hen nights, according to this research conducted by dedicated pre-wedding trips planner Last Night of Freedom.

Are you planning to use this bustling North East city and its surroundings as your stag or hen do location? Not sure where to start your celebrations other than a traditional Newcastle bar crawl? Newcastle wedding venues expert Cairn Hotel Group, has given us this guide to where you should go for a stag and hen do to remember across the region…

Whitewater tubing & gorge walking

Ideal for: Those who love the great outdoors.
The North East of England is home to some of the UK’s most exciting rapids, with Endless Adventure North East giving you the opportunity to see them up close by whitewater tubing in Durham, Northumberland, Tees Valley or Tyne and Wear.

You can extend your adventure too by taking up Endless Adventure North East’s gorge walking, featuring natural rockslides, step offs and 15-foot faith leaps.

Transport, the use of specialist equipment and photos come complete with each experience, while a buffet-style lunch with drinks can be added for a small charge.

Go karting

Ideal for: Adrenaline junkies.
Looking to enjoy a thrill but would rather keep your feet dry? Then we recommend you put pedal to the metal by booking up a stag and hen go karting party with Top Gear Karting.

Set on an indoor track — the North-East weather is so unpredictable, after all — there’s so many options available as you look to beat the likes of the maid of honour and best man to the chequered flag.

Both the Exclusive Grand Prix and Open Grand Prix events will see groups racing in heats, semi-finals and finals as they battle for bragging rights, while the Ironman is for those really looking for the ultimate challenge due to it being a 100-lap race. All events see the top three finishers being presented with trophies for their triumphs.

Football, cricket, rugby & more

Ideal for: Sports fans.
Anyone who loves sport will never be short of things to do around the North East, so it makes sense to pair up your passion by heading along to some exciting sporting venues.

You will be able to catch some live Premier League football by booking a private box or suite at St James’ Park — home of Newcastle United — as well as enjoy a four-course meal and gain access to bar facilities throughout the game.

Fancy a flutter? Secure a private box at Newcastle Racecourse and you will be able to cheer on your chosen horses while tucking into some delicious food and enjoying drinks from a carefully selected wine list.

You can also watch both domestic and international cricket at Emirates Riverside, Newcastle Falcons rugby club in action at Kingston Park and the Newcastle Eagles — the British Basketball’s most successful club — on court at Sports Central.

Spa break

Ideal for: Those looking to relax.
Whilst they are one of the most memorable days of your lives, weddings can also take a lot of time and effort to prepare for. Therefore, enjoy a chance to relax before walking the aisle with a spa break.

The North East has a perfect setting for a spa day in the luxury four-star Ramside Hall Hotel, located on the outskirts of Durham city centre.

Hen parties can celebrate in a sophisticated way with the venue’s ‘Here Comes the Girls…’ spa bridal experience, which includes a sparkling afternoon tea that has an Asian Twist and a mini spa treatment.

The groom shouldn’t feel that they have to miss out either, as Ramside Hall Hotel also has ESPA face and body treatments specifically tailored to men. Why not also enjoy a spot of golf on one of the facility’s two 18-hole championship golf courses during your visit?

Some great ideas especially the Spa. Go Karting for sure, my husband enjoyed it on his stag do so much 🙂

I had a 1920’s meal in a London restaurant with my close friends, mum and Mother in Law, not one for the cliche hen do!

I’d go with the spa break or the outdoor stuff. Both ends of the spectrum appeal to me!
